Boston is the capital of Massachusetts. Massachusetts is the most populous of the six New England states and ranks third in overall population density of the 50 states. Approximately 6.4 million people live in the Boston metropolitan area. Today, we all went off in different directions to see Boston. Carlton & Jane actually walked the entire 2.5 mile Freedom Trail. Lyndia, Gayla, Mary, & John took a nice leisurely bus tour to see the highlights of Boston. Dale, Sandy, Boyd & Cecilia all did a trolley tour where they could get off at any stop and then back on all day. We visited a lot of historical sites such as the home of Paul Revere, the Old North Church where the lanterns were hung to warn the colonists of how the British were leaving Boston (one lantern if by land, two if by sea), the USS Constitution ("Old Ironsides"), Bunker Hill, the Old State House were Bostonians first heard the reading of the Declaration of Independence and the site of the Boston Massacre. We also saw the Old South Meeting House where the notorious meeting of the Sons of Liberty met just before they headed to Boston Harbor to dump all the tea off of a cargo ship. Everyone will remember that act of defiance as the Boston Tea Party. Other famous sites in Boston include the Boston Common, the original "Cheers" bar (the inspiration for the TV show), the Trinity Church, Harvard, Cambridge, M.I.T., Fenway Park (Home of the Boston Red Sox), and the Massachusetts State House. We all met at dinner to share our adventures of the day.
