Road Trip 2009 travel blog

On The Delta Scenic Loop
21-31 January - I left Joan’s at noonish and stopped at the Flag City RV Park for propane then headed for the resort. I have back-to-back reservations at two different resorts on the Delta Loop and I went to the second one first by mistake. They kindly directed me to the correct one.

It started to rain about the time I got here and I got a little wet as I hooked up the rig but it really didn’t bother me too much. I actually enjoyed the refreshing cool drops on my head.

Even though I am in the boonies and quite a distance from any large metro area, I have good telephone, television (didn’t even need to put the antenna up), and computer reception, due to the close proximity of the Sacramento and San Francisco broadcasting towers and the very flat terrain of the Delta.

I have acquired a liking for the Delta during this 11 day period. Initially I wasn’t sure that I would enjoy being in such a remote area, but it has turned out to be a real treat. It’s isolated enough to where I can revel in the peace and serenity of the calm waterways but still close enough for a quick run to town to enjoy hanging out with my HOMIES for a walk, movie, or a geocaching exploration.

1 February - Go Arizona! I don’t really care much who wins today, just like Michael Vick, I don’t have a dog in the fight however, since I am partial to desert country and like rooting for the underdog, I would prefer to see Arizona take it. Six of my friends joined me at the Lighthouse Restaurant here at the RV resort for a light lunch, followed by a short walking tour of the park, before gathering at the clubhouse with some of the other park folk to enjoy the game and a finger food feast. Congratulations to the Steelers. What an exciting game.

2-3 February - Spent Monday in recovery mode and enjoyed a 10k walk in Lodi on Tuesday.

4 February - I drove a mile up the levee to the Delta Shores RV Resort where I’ll be parked for the next 3 weeks.

5-6 February - We finally got some needed rain here in the area and I spent most of these 2 days inside the RV enjoying the sound of raindrops falling on my head (roof).

7 February - Some of my walking buddies and I drove to higher ground this morning to enjoy a 10k in the quaint little town of Sutter Creek. After the walk we had a great lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Stockton. Shortly thereafter, June, Larry and I moved Larry’s huge 60 inch television set from his place to June’s for safekeeping.

Yesterday, I volunteered to look in on Janet’s cats while she is off gallivanting about on a two week vacation, and endured an extensive training session on the proper care and feeding of her 2 finicky felines and the proper operation of her persnickety alarm system. On my way home today I stopped in for my first cat encounter. I got the gate and garage door opened without any problems however, I couldn’t get the alarm turned off in time to prevent the ear deafening warning system from blowing out my eardrums. I did manage however to get a hold of the alarm company to call off the cops and to prevent any additional charges to Janet‘s account. After another thorough training session from the security company, I think I finally have it figured out. The cat feeding went fine and the whole alarm fiasco didn’t seem to bother them one iota. Hopefully tomorrow’s session works out a little better.

8-20 February - I hung out at Janet’s cat house this whole period and had no further issues with the alarm system. This is the longest I’ve ever stayed at a cat house. Janet has a beautiful home at a great location in North Stockton. The levee is just out her back gate and offers basically unlimited walking/running opportunities. As a added bonus I also had Dish TV and laundry facilities at my disposal. Oh yeah, Brutus, Bibsy, and I are good buddies now.

In addition to cat duty. My HOMIES and I enjoyed walking, hiking, geocaching, movies, and generous amounts of food at numerous restaurants. Good times.

21 February - My fellow Rollin’ Geo-HOMIES and I did an 8 and a half plus mile walk (Joan and Jeanette joined us for a modified version) from Janet’s house today. It was a great walk and included the soon-to-be world famous J-loop.

Janet arrived home about 3. I debriefed her and brought her up-to-date on her house and cats.

22 February - Our geocaching day got rained out but some of us HOMIES met at Mickey D’s this morning for breakfast and chatter. Later, Joanna and I enjoyed the movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

23/24 February - Spent my last two days in the Delta walking about and just hangin’ out. I took walks on both nights up and over the levee to sit on the pier and enjoy the water, the night air, and the starlit sky.
