Bob & Elsie's Adventures travel blog

Yesterday we drove from Bristol, TN to Gatlinburg, TN, a short trip for us, about 90 miles. We are spending the next week at Twin Creek RV Resort about two miles from downtown Gatlinburg. This is a very nice campground, clean and well laid out. The reason we came to Gatlinburg was because it is close to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. I had no idea that there is so much going on here. When we checked in at the campground the host gave us some magazines advertising the attractions and shows. We are going to be very busy this week and may have to stay an extra week if we want to see all the things that interest us.

There is a trolley stop right outside the resort, the trolley runs into downtown Gatlinburg and then you can change trolleys and go to Pigeon Forge. We drove into Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge yesterday and the traffic is a bit much, probably why they have the trolley system. We picked a good time of the year to be here. It is “Christmas in the Smokies” and they really go all out. The celebration started on November 7th. There are Christmas light displays everywhere and there is a Trolley Ride of Lights each evening that takes a tour of all of them. Beside all the tourist attractions Gatlinburg is also surrounded by the Smokie Mountain National Park, 520,000 acres of mountain wilderness. Now our only problem is where to go first.
