Reaching for an orange!

Oranges, oranges oranges! That's all we saw when we pulled into our site at the Orange Grove RV Park in Bakersfield, CA. We are parked so close to orange trees that we can literally pick oranges right from the windows of our 5th wheel.

The trees are loaded with oranges and some of them are really huge. Paulette didn't waste any time in picking one off a tree, which is allowed, and trying it. She said it was the best orange she's ever tasted in her life.

It was a beautiful, warm day all the way from Corning to Bakersfield - not a cloud in the sky and around 20C. We left the Rolling Hills RV Park just after 8:00am and arrived in Bakersfield about 3:15pm. We split off from the 'caravan' today - they left an hour earlier than us and were planning to go past Bakersfield to Barstow. The only stop we made was for about an hour at an Outlet Mall on I-5. Traffic was light going through Sacramento as it was a Saturday.

We get a little bit of a break from driving now as we are going to be staying here in Bakersfield for two nights before heading on to Lake Havasu on Monday morning. This park is a very nice place to stay as we are right in the middle of an Orange Grove and well off the freeway so it's quiet too. The facilities here are absolutely spotless.

PhotobucketPaulette intends to stock up on oranges before we leave. The staff here actually supply long handles with baskets on the end to make it easy to pick the oranges off of higher branches. They encourage everyone to help themselves - it's great!
