Adam and Katie's great adventure 2017 travel blog

$3 beers!

Is this really art?

Nespresso time :)

Auckland city

We arrived in Auckland about midnight following a rather nice flight on a Dreamliner from Sydney. Fortunately our accommodation was only 10 minutes away by cab so we settled down for the night before beginning our NZ adventure.

Auckland is New Zealand's largest city with about 1.5m people. It's a pretty chilled city and as we were feeling cheap today (slight issue... See yesterday's blog about flights to China) we decided to visit whatever was free in the city. This turned out to be the cities art gallery. Given neither of us like art we didn't have high hopes. Needless to say our expectations were met when we entered the contemporary art section where paintings could have been drawn by a 5 year old. Fortunately there was a good photo exhibition section which means it wasn't a total loss.

On our way back we also stumbled across a Nespresso shop so naturally went in for a couple of free coffees.

We also walked to the viaduct harbour as we read that they had the cheapest beers in Auckland. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that we could get a beer for only $3... Bargain!

Off to Matamata tomorrow to visit Hobbiton (yes... The one from Lord of the Rings)... Adam is very excited :)
