This afternoon the Pecan Grove neighborhood gave a farewell party for park managers, Robert and Carol McCartney. They have been here since April 1992. I first came to Pecan Grove in May 1992, so they are the face of the park to me. They are retiring and going to Port Aransas where they have a park model trailer. We certainly will miss them. Bob will take over as manager on November 1. He has been filling in for Robert for a long time on week ends and during vacations; so he already knows the ropes and all the residents.
Everyone brought something for the party. There was a great variety and enough food for a full meal and then some. No need for dinner tonight!! Some former residents came to say good-bye also, including Jay and Joyce Lindner. It was good to see them again. We even had violin music by former resident, Ruby Jane, accompanied by bass guitarist, Austin. Because of live music on the patio at the Umami Mia restaurant next door, we had to go inside the park office for our music. Ruby Jane’s mother still lives in the park.
The weather cooperated with us. It has been raining off and on for the past couple of days but it held off this afternoon. The cooler temperature was a welcome relief, too.
