|On our last Saturday in Virginia we visited the town of Galax. It was a very nice small town near The New River Trail. There are lots of shops in downtown. We spent a few hours there and had lunch at the Smokehouse BBQ. On Sunday we left Fort Chiswell RV Park and drove south about 135 miles to the Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA located in Fort Mill, SC just a little south of Charlotte, NC. It was a short trip and the weather was great. The scenery through North Carolina was beautiful. The leaves are just starting to change. The Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA is nice but a little pricey, I guess because it is so close to Charlotte. After we got set up on Sunday we went to the Barnyard Flea Market, just a few miles for the campground. It was a large flea market but there wasn’t much that interested us there.
We have had a couple rainy days this week but for the most part it has been warm and sunny.
Today while wandering around back and forth from South Carolina to North Carolina a couple of times we ran into an interesting shopping mall just a few miles from our campground. It is called Plaza Fiesta Carolinas. From the outside it looked like a huge orange, red and green warehouse but the inside came as a real surprise. It was like an upscale flea market with many vendors housed in buildings that looked like a Latin American village with a central plaza and many side street. It was all very well done. Not all of the stores were open today but I imagine that on the weekends the place is very crowded. After spending awhile there we headed toward North Carolina and had lunch at a Cici’s Pizza, one of my favorite places to eat, or should I say overeat. After lunch we ran across a really large mall, Carolina Place, one of the largest malls we have seen in our travels. Since we had both overeaten at Cici’s we decided to do a mall walk.
