Sea Birds Behind Padre Island Civic Center

This morning we were up early to go to the Gladys Porter Zoo before it got too hot. The zoo was founded in 1971 as a "survival center" for rare and endangered species. It gives sanctuary to over 1,500 species. We really enjoyed our visit.

From the zoo, we went to Port Isabel for lunch at the Pirate's Landing restaurant and stuffed ourselves once more with wonderful food. After lunch we drove over to South Padre Island to look around. We stopped at the Civic Center to walk on the boardwalk to the water's edge to view the sea birds. There also was an alligator which had been washed up there during a hurricane several years ago.

Then we went back to Port Isabel and stopped at the Blue Bell store for ice cream. We decided that this would be our "dinner" since we had eaten such a big lunch rather late. When we got back to the RV park, we all went to our separate rigs instead of playing games in the club room, as we normally would have done.
