From The Mountains to the Plains
Sep 1, 2016
|We had a good day of travel today. We were up with plenty of time to share our usual morning coffee together.
Around 7:30 we started getting the “last-minute” items done so that we could depart our summer home at Mountaindale near Colorado Springs.
Eddie & Jan were the first of our friends to show up at our door.
It was a pleasure to have spent the summer with these good friends.
Bob & Janet walked up to wish us safe travels also, and then Jesse & Ginger arrived to share hugs. It helps to resolve the sorrow at our parting with our friends when we realize that we’ll be seeing them again, some sooner than others.
It was right at 8:30 when we pulled out of the RV Park and drove north into the city. Traffic was fairly heavy until after we turned on to Hwy 24 heading northeast toward Limon, Colorado, where we refueled and joined I-70 eastbound. It took us just an hour and a half to reach I-70 and head toward our destination for the day, Oakley, Kansas.
We fueled the truck for our departure tomorrow morning and then drove across the highway to the “High Plains Campground” where we checked in and were soon set up.
We then walked to the Colonial Steakhouse to get a bite to eat, since we had not eaten a bite yet today.
After a nice meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, veggies, salad and hot rolls, we walked back to our RV where we watched a steady stream of RV’s coming in to set up for the night.
Marilyn & I relaxed, took care of some business on the internet, and re-set our clocks for Central time. I plan to tow the car behind the RV tomorrow so that Marilyn & I will ride together in the truck.
We traveled 4 ½ hours today and have a trip of five hours to reach our destination of Topeka, KS tomorrow. Then we’ll relax for the weekend before moving on to Hannibal, MO on Monday.
Life is Good!
