After a restful siesta we drove to Livadi to meet K2 and V for some touring. V took us first up through upper Strapodi and then via a narrow, rough road to the top of a mountain to the Church of Saint Akindini. Here we had spectacular views of Kapsali, Xitra, Hora and the castle, and many other coastal and inland panoramas in the south east of Kythera. It was windy but worth it. J probably wouldn’t have been game to drive up there. K and S would have had kittens if they had still been here!
Next we went down on a slightly better road through Kalamos to the cave of St Sophia. Unfortunately there had been work going on in preparation for a big day, and the church was /wing painted so all the icons had been taken down. Nevertheless it was well worth the visit.
Finally we visited Maria’s Sweet shop in Livadi for coffee and cake (portokali and choc coated orange ). Then back to Kapsali where we packed and then went to O Magos restaurant for dinner. Olives, cheese, beans, moussaka, lamb, and watermelon.
On the way home, J visited Trattamento and talked with cousin Panagiotis (an electrical engineer now running the restaurant) - they exchanged addresses and connected by Facebook. He said that they did have photos of his great grandmother Froso and would send copies. He is hoping to visit Australia. We farewelled Tassie his father and retired for the evening.
Tomorrow we leave for Athens en route to Malta
