This morning I attended a DAR chapter meeting. We had a very interesting program, “Building a Traditional Caddo Grass House” by Jacqueline Banatwala. She and her husband had volunteered to help the Caddo Indians, known as the Hasinai, build a typical house at Caddo Mounds State Historic Site. The park is 26 miles west of Nacogdoches. A large Caddo grass house had stood on site but, after approximately 15 years, it became unstable and had to be burned down, according to Caddo custom. The Banatwalas had some very nice slides taken during the process.
After the meeting and a quick lunch, I headed to my attorney’s office to sign my Advance Directives. It’s nice to have that major task completed.
