Leaving Cascais

Cabo Espichel

28 Oct: Still over 20 knots of wind, but the forecast is for no wind in a couple of days and we want to get round the corner and into the Algarve, so we set off at 8am. The wind dropped a bit to about 17 knots mid-morning and apart from half an hour in the afternoon when we had to motor, we had some great sailing in the sunshine all day. The only excitement was when a couple of tankers coming out of Setabul headed straight towards us, so we had to take avoiding action! The coastline is quite hilly with steep cliffs and some lovely beaches. We dropped anchor just outside Sines marina just before dark – 55 nautical miles in 10 hours 30 minutes.
