It was a nice 117 mile drive from West Yellowstone to Livingston except for the slow drizzle all the way up and over. Bozeman was especially pretty as we drove through with lots of flowers lining the street.
We are staying at the Rock Canyon RV Park about three miles South of Livingston. It is a very nice small park and we have a 50 amp full hookups drive through site with free WiFi and Cable. Verizon and satellite coverage are also good.
After getting set up we headed into town to see what was available and try to find somewhere for Doris' birthday dinner. It is a quaint little town with way too much traffic. There is about 21 square blocks of downtown which is made up of very old buildings and it doesn't look like it has changed much in the last 100 hundred years. We stopped for dinner at the Montana's Rib and Chop House
where Doris had a rack of baby back ribs she thought were excellent and I had a cedar plank salmon which was also very good.
About 5:30 we headed for the North entrance of Yellowstone NP just outside Gardiner, MT. It was a pleasant drive with great scenery and we even managed to see a small group of big horn sheep near the road. Gardiner is where the Gardiner River merges with the Yellowstone River. Gardiner River is one of the many rivers that flow out of Yellowstone NP, some on the West side of the Continental Divide and some on the East side. So some of the snow in the Yellowstone mountains wind up in the Pacific Ocean and some in the Atlantic Ocean. After passing through Gardiner we passed through the Roosevelt Arch and into the park. It was just a short ride up to Mammoth Hot Springs where we found the large herd of Elk had congregated again. We have been here four time is the last week. Twice the Elk were here and twice they were not.
We had no more than started back when a big thunderstorm popped up for the entire ride home. Lots of wind but only a steady rain, nothing like the frog stranglers we get in Florida but the winds were really high. We did make it back safely but had to put the bedroom slide in so we could sleep without the awning flapping.
Tuesday and Wednesday we didn't do much but putter around the Mothership and do few things we needed to do as well as get a few movies from RedBox we wanted to see. It has been a relaxing stay and we head for three nights at Billings tomorrow.
