I had an evening like what Peter Jennings would write about while Walking Across America! After traveling most of the day, I stopped in a town called Maysville on the Ohio River. I only found this campground by asking at the visitor’s center about Route 9 and if there was any camping to be had if I went that way. They aren’t advertised in the Trailer Life Directory or in any of the other books I have. Locals camp here all summer – 7 months for $700!!

Since they knew I was staying only one night, they put me up in the parking lot of the marina with electric hookup. Cheri had given me directions over the phone and her husband, Bill, got me parked and hooked up to the electric post (he had to cut out a notch in the cover box so that the cord could hang down and the connection stay strong). I went into the building to pay my bill and was asked if I wanted to relax and have a beer with the guys hanging outside. I accepted and was introduced all around. Cheri was ordering supper from a local restaurant and asked me if I wanted to eat with them or go my own way. I ate with them, of course! Then, Rick and his wife, Cindy, were going to take their pontoon out for a spin and I was asked to join them! What a blast! I had my first riverboat ride on the Ohio, 3 free beers, and a great pulled pork sandwich for dinner! Life doesn’t get any better than this!
