An abandoned MT homestead

Bighorn Canyon

Wild horse in Bighorn Canyon Recreation Area

Sunset from our campsite

Everything’s far apart in this part of the country, and we spent the day driving south through MT. We stopped briefly in the town of Fort Benton, where there’s a nice National Parks Visitor’s Center, and the folks there helped us get information about our next destination, the Bighorn Medicine Wheel, near Lovell WY.

This is marvelous country to drive through, particularly if you stay off the Interstates. We passed through Billings, then continued on to Lovell, where we picked up a leaflet about the Medicine Wheel from the local Agriculture Department office, then stopped in at the Visitor’s Center for the Bighorn National Forest. Then we had supper at a local pizza place.

After supper we drove up into the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, a part of the Bighorn National Forest. We found a nice campsite, then drove up the road a ways for a better look at the canyon. En route, we spotted some of the wild horses who run free in the area.

We were back at our campsite for an extravagant sunset.
