The Escapees Magazine has a section called "Days End" and members send in the names of places which are inexpensive to stay out around the country. The latestedition told of two county parks to the northwest of Chicago in the Kane County Forest Preserves, so since we had some time to kick around, we decided to give them a try.

We went to Paul Wolff Forest Preserve first which is very close to Elgin, IL. What a lovely place

. It's very small - only about 48 spots, but they have water and electric on site

and gorgeous nature trails throughout the preserve. Jeff and I have been trying to get our 10,000 steps in daily, so walking trails are very important to us. We hadn't planned to be here for the autumn color change, but how lovely it was to see. Everyday, we would see new colors and changes in the forests around us.

We met so many nice people there as well. The majority of the RVers were fulltimers like us. Several were escapee members and we met about five Texans.

They have a really big library since we are still using the library for internet access. The park is also very close to shopping areas and a Metra train stop is just down the road. The toll road can take you right into Chicago, so it was easy to drive in and see Adam.

While at Elgin, we finally heard something about the Sony laptop. I was checking on the status when I saw they were waiting for an authorization for payment. WHAT!!!! This was supposed to be under warranty. I immediately called Sony and was told that the computer had "structural damage" which, of course, was not covered under the warranty. They said the LCD screen was cracked. I told them that I had never done anything to physically damage the LCD screen, but they said it couldn't have happened by the excessive heat which I referred to, and if I wanted it fixed, I need to send them $789.00! Since I had paid $950 only 4 months ago, I wasn't too happy about having to pay almost the cost of a new computer and told them so. But they wouldn't budge. I told them to send it back unrepaired, so we are still without a computer.

We did enjoy our stay at Paul Wolff in spite of that. There's a casino on the Fox River called the Grand Victoria. We spent a few fun hours there one day playing the penny machines. Everyday, we took at least one walk

Madison loved it too. So many smells and so many squirrels. She became squirrel beserk. We would walk 3-4 miles daily; she would easily triple or quadruple that. Here she is with a well-deserved nap.

One day, we took the Metra into Chicago and spent a day. The weather was glorius - just a slight freshness to the air and totally sunny

. We had to go back to Millenium Park to see the "Bean" We had seen it before, but Adam told us they had just finished polishing it and it was really cool

We're staying at Paul Wolff about ten days, then moving to the other Kane County Park - Buffalo Park.
