We had one of those “WOWSER” days today. We visited the incredible Schloss Sayn butterfly garden in Bendorf. Nestled in a romantic castle park of Sayn with old giant trees, ponds and streams, we enjoyed walking for an hour before we even went inside.
In 1987, this small exotic paradise, which is housed in two glass pavilions, was founded by Prince Alexander and Princess Gabriela zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn. The awesome plants were as beautiful as the butterflies. They have banana trees, hibiscus and other tropical plants with thousands of fluttering butterflies.
I was surprised to see colorful tropical finches, parakeets and more exotic birds flying around too. It was magical with cascading waterfalls, tropical fish and the colorful butterflies from South America, from Africa and Asia and all over the world fluttering from one flower to another, always in search of nectar. Some even landed in our hair. It was an amazing thing to see, I have never seen butterflies in every state of development until today. I hope our readers enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoyed the visit. Check back later for more from Germany.
