|Thu, 30 Aug: Continuing west...
We had a restful nite in Henderson Louisiana and awoke refreshed. Following breakfast we got the coach ready for the road. Bob moved the RV to the office area where we had enough room to connect the car, complete our brake and lite checks, and do a final walk around.
We pulled out of Frenchmans RV Park a few minutes after nine and in short order we were back on I 10 heading west. The drive from Henderson to Lake Charles was uneventful and we crossed over the high bridge on I 10. At the Texas line we pulled into the welcome center where Bob picked up a new state map along with some other tourist info. Meanwhile, Sandi ran the generator for air conditioning and microwave as she warmed up some leftovers for lunch.
We switched drivers and Sandi took the helm for the balance of the day's drive. There was construction on I 10 that narrowed the lanes to white-knuckle proportions. It went on for what seemed endless miles.
We exited I 10 onto US 96 north a short while and then picked up Texas 105 west. About forty or so miles later we moved to Texas 146 north another thirty some miles to the Escapees Rainbow Park in Livingston. We got checked in and were soon parked in our full-service site.
Today's drive was 221 miles with 8⅔ mpg.
We got set up and started the air conditioner. It was in the mid nineties outside and, thanks to solar heating, in the high eighties inside. We then hopped into Carpe Dinky for a quick run to the post office to pick up our mail.
We'll be here thru Labor Day. As a rule we'd rather "celebrate" these summer three day holidays parked somewhere. Nothing too exciting is planned so we'll pretty much stick around our air conditioned home. The temperatures are forecast to be in the nineties during our stay, with humidity to match.
