We got a late start today and then had some errands to run at the Post Office and Walmart before we really hit the road after lunch. We headed north through southeast South Carolina toward Augusta. As it got late in the afternoon, it didn't look like there were going to be any places to stay over in Georgia so we pointed toward Columbia, SC and found a Yogi Bear Jellystone Park in Swansea, SC. Nice place, but pretty empty so it was quiet. It's along the Edisto River and they have 4 or 5 fishing ponds on site. Turns out they had no internet access because they got hit by lightning last week and it fried all of their electronics. Thank goodness this is an area that has good AT&T 4G coverage so I could use my phone as a hot spot.
On the way we went through Allendale, SC where every May they have the Cooterfest. We didn't know what a cooter was, but based on the sign it looked like it was a turtle. Sure enough, cooter are edible freshwater turtles. It all started in 1984 when the local FM radio station, WDOG, the First Annual Carolina “Cooter” Race to claim the $1000 grand prize and the “World Fastest Cooter” title. You can find out more at Cooterfest
. You have to watch the video, some of these turtles are pretty fast. I'm sorry we're not going to be around here in May.
Not much else to report, so bye till tomorrow.
