Enjoying the sun

Lake Cachuma CA

Wednesday January 30, 2008

It was finally time to dump the black holding tank. We’ve been using it for nearly 4 weeks now and it has continued to serve us well. We are careful with keeping paper out of the tank, keeping the non-toxic biodegradable chemicals in, and keeping plenty of water in it as well. But, alas, it was finally time to dump. Since there were no rest areas along the way between Santa Cruz and Pasadena and we knew it was going to be a long drive, I decided that we should drive south towards Santa Barbara and stay at Lake Cachuma for the night. That way we could have access to electricity, could fill up on water, and could dump our tanks. The best part was that we had a discount and the price for a full hookup and a partial hookup was the same! So we spoiled ourselves and did a full hookup, dumped the black tank, took long showers and dumped the gray and galley tanks dry too. We found ourselves looking out to the mountains and just enjoying the beauty of this area. There had been a frost at the campground overnight and that made for some snow on the tops of the nearby mountains. It was just stunning. We spent the day doing some late-winter camper cleaning in the 60-degree day, got our laundry done, and basked in the sun at lunch time. We decided to stay one more night since we did not finish with the laundry till late. It was just so nice to be relaxed and be able to hang out outside the camper for a change.
