So I headed for Vicenza and decided to give Verona a miss. I managed to pick a route to Vicenza that avoided main roads and thought this the best option. Verona can wait for another time, perhaps with Veena in attendance seeing as it`s the home of Romeo and Juliet. Vicenza is the first city where I have struggled to find a room. I bumped in to a group of American cyclist also experiencing the same problem. It`s a long story but I ended up sharing a room with one of their group to save money.
They were a real nice bunch of guys. There`s five of them, Steve(the group leader and organiser of the tour), Jim (a retired teacher who`s a profesional photographer), Lee (a Doctor who actually brought Jim`s first daughter in to the World), Lenny (Iforget his profession) and Arran (a retired Vice President of the American Trust Bank) who kindly offered to share a room with me. They`ve been touring northern Italy for the past two weeks and their ages range from 54 to 82 (I think). They were all extremely fit and great fun. We had a nice evening at a self service restaurant that Lenny found out about from some local women. I only hope I can be half as fit and lively as they are when I'm their age (if I`m lucky enough to reach their age).
Tomorrow, Bassano di Grappa and Pordenone.
