Waitomo caves

The name Waitomo comes from the Maori, wai (water) and tomo (hole). Waitomo has a series of underground cave systems and streams we ventured into the most popular tourist cave - the glow-worm cave. The tour began with a look around the caves then we headed out of the cave via a rowing boat in the pitch black. The glow-worms could be seen in the dark and appeared over our heads dotted about like little stars (albeit green stars). It was difficult to take a picture of the glow-worms, which are actually the larvae of the fungus gnat, as they don't glow if you shine a light on them, and its quite cruel as they shine their lights to catch food.
