Craters of the moon

Lake Taupo is in the heart of the north island and was formed by one of the greatest volcanic explosions of all time. The surrounding area is still volcanically active but hopefully not tonight because we planned to set up camp here for the night. We had views of the lake as we approached Taupo and pitched our tent beside the lake. Paul was still struggling to understand the NZ pronunciations and picked up a pen when asked to enter his pin number.

Lake Taupo is the source of NZ's longest river, the Waikato, which flows to Huka falls. Huka falls were certainly noisy, as the clear blue water has to pass through a tiny opening in the rocks.
