This morning I left Sacramento around 9:00 to allow time for the commuters to get to their jobs. By then the traffic had cleared and I had no trouble getting out. I headed for Madera to spend a few days with a childhood friend, Wanda Beck, and her husband, Ted, and their grandson, Spencer. Barb went on ahead to Bakersfield, where she plans to spend a week. I’ll catch up with her later. Then we’ll head east.
I arrived at the Becks’ home shortly after noon. They are in process of remodeling one of their bathrooms, so things are a little topsy-turvy right now. It will be very pretty. I went with her to get sandwiches for the two workers and us.
Tonight I went with them to dinner at the home of one of Ted’s brothers. He has five brothers, three of which live in this area. One brother is deceased and the other one lives in Lubbock, Texas. Their only sister, Myra Murchison, is celebrating her 75th birthday this week. She flew in from Mississippi for the occasion. The brothers are taking turns hosting a dinner party for her at their homes. I had met the sisters-in-law when I visited here in 2006 but tonight was the first time I had met the brothers. They really have a good time together.
