Anita found a couple nice motorcycle rides outside of Denver and we chose to try riding up Mt. Evans. The first leg of the ride was from the KOA in Central City to Echo Lake Park via highway 103, and from there is was about 14 miles climbing from about 10,000 feet to the summit at 14,136 feet. Mount Evans is just a little higher than Pike's Peak at 14,115 feet which we road up last summer while in Colorado Springs. The road up the mountain had just been opened for the season 8 days prior to our ride, and there was plenty of snow everywhere except the paved road. I would guess it was about 25 degrees at the summit, with winds at 15 to 20 knots. All in all it was a great mountain ride, although the return route took us on about 12 miles or hard-packed dirt road, and then about a 5 mile detour that included a mile or 2 on a narrow loose dirt road. We stopped for some Colorado medication on our way back to the coach so all was good.
