Topeka and Dinner With Friends
Sep 9, 2015
|We shared our coffee indoors before getting things ready for the road this morning.
I paused in my outdoor chores to chat with a guy from Mesa, AZ, who is interested in the full-time RV lifestyle.
The final chore was to hook up the car, then check all the lights and the rear view camera. All was well and we were ready to go by 8:30.
That was when the fog rolled in. We didn’t allow the fog to deter us from our goal of reaching Topeka, KS today, although we did drive slower than normal until the sun burned off the fog.
Except for that, the weather was terrific and travel conditions were great all day.
We stopped for fuel in Salina at the Flying J (Exit 253 off of I-70).
We arrived at Deer Creek Valley RV Resort in Topeka just five hours and five minutes after leaving Oakley this morning.
An hour later we were all set up, the car was unhooked and restored to operating condition.
I was ready for a glass of ice with a bit of whiskey added, so Marilyn & I sat outdoors in the shade for awhile.
Both of us were thinking about our friends and missing them, as they are now sort of scattered around the country.
A much needed shower and some clean clothing followed, and we were ready to drive up to the “El Dorado” Mexican restaurant to meet friends, Tom & Berni, Sam & Rhonda, and Lori.
These are all special people who are friends we love to spend time with, but we did miss John, who is teaching in Pratt, KS.
We all enjoyed the food and the margaritas, (99 cents each), as the conversation was lively and interrupted only by the laughter of good friends. It was a fine time indeed.
We plan a relaxing day tomorrow and then we’ll head for Hannibal.
Friends and family await our arrival.
