Danny and Anna's Round The World Trip 2005 travel blog

Packed out Piriapolis beach

The intention today was to visit the football stadium that hosted the first world cup which was subsequently won by the Uruguayan hosts. Unfortunately the bus driver forget to tell us where to get off, even when we asked and instead we toured some of the suburbs on board an eighties music revival bus. We passed through the affluent burbs of Montevideo cruising along part of the coast before finishing at Portenas shopping centre. It wasn't our intended stop but we had a look round the shops all the same.

We couldn't find the same number bus which could take us via the stadium on our return to the centre so instead we got on a different one and headed straight for Plaza Independencia. Following this we decided it was time to hit the beach so got on another bus heading east to the seaside resort of Piriapolis.

We arrived in Piriapolis to an intense heat we have not been used to for a while. The YHA here was full so after a trip to the tourist office we found a hotel which was a bit more pricey than usual lodgings. I managed to pull the fan cable off too which didn't look too good in front of the owner. Time to chill out so the beach it was. We stayed until seven which we thought was quite late however it seemed half of Piriaplois was still on the beach at nine as the sun set.
