We drove to the southeast today into New Hampshire. I93 becomes the Franconia Notch Parkway as it passes through Franconia Notch State Park. Franconia Notch is a major mountain pass through the White Mountains and is Flaked by Cannon Mountain, one of the highest ski mountains in the east, and Mount Lafayette. The notch was the home of the Old Man of the Mountain. The rock formation the profile of a mans face is a symbol of the state of New Hampshire as it is seen on all of the state highway signs. In 2003, the Old Man collapsed and the face is no longer visible. We stopped here in 2010 Tour of New England and the Maritimes. We didn't stop today. After leaving I93 we skated the north end of Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in NH. This area is a big summer resort area with traffic to match on the 2 lane highways that traverse the area. We ended the day near Tamworth, NH at the Chocorua Camping Village KOA. When we got there I found out that the reservation I made was for July 30 not July 29 so we have to stay in Site B12 for one night before we move to Site 85 for the remaining 3 days. We'll be exploring this area of NH to see what we can see. Stay tuned.
