Hoi An, Vietnam

We made our way to Hoi An by bus, which was very inexpensive (CND$1.60 per person) and got us to our designation in less than 4 hours. After 10 minutes of bargaing for a taxi fair we were on our way to the Palm Garden Resort in Hoi An. We heard about this resort from the General Manager of the hotel we stayed at in Hanoi. He arranged for a private bungalow on the beach for us at a rate of US $70. We were stunned when we arrived at the resort. The reception area was grand with its 40 foot ceilings and beautiful furnishings. We were escorted to our private bungalow. Our bedroom had 3 walls of windows, one of which overlooked the beach, one offered a view of the garden and the third one offered the view of our outdoor tub. Our entire bathroom and foyer area were outdoors with a roof over the bathroom, closet and foyer and no roof over the tub. It was really nicely designed and we enjoyed it very much. I would love to recreate the concept in Canada, but I am afraid that the weather conditions will not allow it.

After waking up to gentle waves and soft rays of morning sunshine I went for a swim in the ocean. The water was cool, salty and very refreshing. Later that morning we enjoyed our beautiful fresh water pool and after lunch headed into town to visit a tailor.

Hoi An is famous for its custom tailors. Material selection is fantastic and the prices are very affordable. For the first day we walked around Hoi An visiting probably close to 30 different tailor shops. At the end of the day I finally settled on Ly at shop number 9 in the cloth market.
