The Well

Montezuma Castle & Montezuma Well NM

Montezuma Castle NM has the best preserved cliff dwellings in AZ, although you are not able to enter any as you can in other sites. The Sinagua occupied this area in the 1200 century but disappeared by the 1400s. The castle is 100 ft up the cliff with 5 stories and may have had 20 rooms. Montezuma Well is a short drive away. It is a large water filled sink hole used by the prehistoric people. There are excellent examples of the irrigation ditches design by the native people.
