Coastal Drive in the Redwood National Park

Rugged coastline along Coastal Drive in Redwood National Park

The drive up highway 101 (the Redwood Highway) from Cloverdale to Klamath was beautiful. Highway 101 goes right through the Redwood National Park and several state parks. The RV park we are staying at is right on the Klamath River. When I went for a walk along the river this morning I encountered a baby black bear. Not to worry! I just picked up the pace and quickly departed the area!

In 1999, there was a big flood that completely swept away the town of Klamath and the RV park we are at was completely flooded out. After a tough day hiking in the redwoods and elk watching, it was time to curl up with a good book (Robert Lundlum’s The Artic Event) and Oscar in my lap in the Adirondack chair and watch the beautiful Klamath River flow by. What a sweet way to end the day.
