Carpes at Chattanooga (TN) Camping World

Crossing into Kentucky south of Cincinnati

Rainy drive on I 75 in Kentucky

Entering Tennessee on I 75

Nearing Chattanooga

Fri, 17 Aug: Heading south...

After two relaxing, and very wet, days at the FMCA Campground it was time to head out. As FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) members we are allowed two free nites stay each month, so we'd stayed our August limit.

We got an early start as our intent was to spend the nite at the Escapees park near Knoxville, TN. We planned to arrive early in order to do laundry. Alas, such was not to be...

Sandi pulled out of the campground around 0750. She backtracked east on OH 32 to I 275 which we took south toward the Kentucky border. Despite it being rush hour and the intermittent showers we made good time and quickly crossed into Kentucky and picked up I 75 south.

We topped up our diesel tank at a Pilot/Flying J truck stop in Georgetown, KY. The drive south was fine until Bob called the Knoxville park to learn that they were full for the nite. No reservations, we lost!

Bob started looking for an alternative place to overnite and drew a blank. He finally found that the Chattanooga Tennessee Camping World had a campground and they had room. That added 110 miles to our planned trip but it is just too hot to boondock.

We switched drivers and Bob took us into Tennessee and we broke for lunch at the Volunteer State's Welcome Center. Driving thru Knoxville was no picnic, nor was Chattanooga. We found the Camping World right off I 75 on the south side of town and found our Camping World/Good Sam membership had expired. Bob renewed for a year and got the nite's stay free. Not bad.

We found a level site under the trees with no chance of satTV. Such is life. Today's drive was a long-ish 370 miles with an overall fuel economy of 7⅞ mpg.
