Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

This is hard to believe but we have been on the road for three full days and are still only a seven hour drive from Hannibal.

The RV repairs took us in the wrong direction, so instead of being here in West Memphis, Arkansas yesterday, we were in Carthage, Missouri, having some work done on the RV.

Now we are worn out and plan to rest tomorrow.

We’ll be back on the road on Thursday and arrive in New Orleans on Friday.

Today was a good travel day. We towed Marilyn’s Casper II for the first time, getting 9.1 mpg with the truck.

After several hours of towing we stopped at a rest area to stretch our legs and decided to unhook the car. Marilyn followed me the rest of the way and the truck averaged 10.4 mpg without the car.

It will be nice to get a good night of sleep without any need to get up at any certain time tomorrow morning.

The traffic was heavy in spots today, with trucks seeming to our number the cars.

Construction on I-40 had westbound traffic backed up for more than 10 miles.

We stopped for fuel about 50 miles west of Memphis, and a trucker warned me to stay in the left lane as we go through the construction area. He said that numerous cars and trucks had been “thrown” into the guard rail on the right side, due to so many large dips in the surface of the road.

Indeed, as we drove in the left lane at 60 mph, we saw three or four areas where the guard rail had been demolished for some distance.

Go figure!!

Here at the RV park, we finished some left-overs for dinner and now plan to watch some TV, relax, and sleep the night away.

Life is Good!
