Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

We were anxious to get started this morning and left the RV Park in Topeka, KS, 10 minutes before 8:00. We made a short stop at the first Service Area and were back on the road at 10 after 8:00.

The clear blue sky and cooler temps lasted only as far as Kansas City. We rolled across the Missouri State Line right at 9:00 AM and kept right on rollin’.

The sky became overcast and the wind continued to blow pretty briskly as the temperature slowly rose to 90 degrees by the time we reached Hannibal. That wind really hit my fuel mileage as I watched it fall to 9.7 mpg for this final leg of our journey.

First, we spent about half an hour exchanging a hug and hearty hello with each of our friends here at the Mark Twain Cave.

We then drove into the campground and parked the RV.

Once we were parked and level, Marilyn took off to visit the local Walmart for some supplies.

By this time, the humidity matched the temperature and sapped my strength as we parked and set up the RV. Sweat was running off my head like a dripping faucet.

We had a call from our daughter, suggesting that she and the grandkids drive in to see us, have dinner here, and then they were going to leave to attend a high school football game.

Marilyn & I sat out on the patio watching for Jennifer and the grandkids to arrive. Our Son-in-Law had to drive to St Louis for a check up as a follow on to the surgery he recently had on his leg.

Marilyn’s phone rang and it was our daughter, letting us know that Lauren, our granddaughter, was ill and vomiting, so they were unable to come in to see us.

To say that Jennifer and the grandkids were diasappointed is an understatement. Not to mention how we felt!

In any case we will see them all tomorrow, for sure!

Now we are ready to relax from our “Road Warrior” schedule.

The distant thunder which gradually came closer, followed by a short but heavy downpour of rain, reminded us of the mountains we recently left.

To all of our friends who are on the road, or soon to be on the road, we wish you safe travel.

For now, I’ll leave you with a reminder that Life is Good!
