Today was only a short drive, arriving in Amboise by lunch time. Amboise sits on the river Loire and the region is the centre for many castles, palaces and chateaus. It's truly a beautiful part of France.

Our accommodation is close to everything, with parking for the car. We are only 15 min walk to the town centre and the Chateau Amboise but as it didn't open until after lunch at 2pm, we decided to walk up Rue Victor Hugo firstly to see the troglodyte houses (cave houses built into the cliff used for hundreds of years) and then Le Clos Luce. The house where Leanardo De Vinci lived. Many models and drawings are on display as well as furniture. It was very interesting, he was so far ahead of his time.

The Chateau was magnicent, with many works of art on the walls, plus tapestries and furniture . It was started being built in the 15 century under the reign of King CharlesVIII, who was born in Amboise. 75% of the chateau built during his reign has survived to this day.
