First time to visit Deerfield Lake...

My honey, taking the short walk down to the water edge...

I'm pausing along the way to photograph the insects of course!

I'm on my way now :)

Some type of flowering water 'pad'?

This one would not quit moving in the breeze!

Drove around to the boat launch area...

One lone swimmer today...

Another walking path...

One last shot before moving along...

Pretty views all along the way...

Only critteres we encountered today...Open range

This little guy looks like he's got a bullseye on his eye!...

The Black Hills are so pretty :)

Larry loves the old 'homesteads'...

Almost home...

Back to the highway...

Another beautiful day here in the hills...

A small buck & doe enjoying a bite of lunch...I'm ready for...

Last Tuesday Larry & I decided to take the long way home from Rapid & go past Deerfield Lake, a favorite of many of the locals. We'd heard it was a beautiful lake, peaceful & quiet. We were interested in checking out the boat launch facility for a future trip with our Sea Eagle Paddleski. Turns out there are two boat launches & this is a no-wake lake, perfect for paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking. The shore is accessible all around the lake, making it simple to get out of your boat anywhere. Nice for taking a picnic lunch along in case you need a rest from fishing, LOL!

I 'Googled' Deerfield & learned it is the result of damming Castle Creek with a surface area of 435 acres. The average depth is about 30 feet and deepest portions near the dam face are about 90 feet deep. The lake is home to brookies, largemouth bass, trout and more. Looks like we'll be getting our fishing poles ready! Need to talk Dick into taking Larry out while the weather is still so good :)

There were a couple of kayak's there today & a woman with her dog enjoying the water. Very quiet!!! The water was quite beautiful, clear & crystal clean from our vantage point. We enjoyed a short walk in two of the areas we visited, great place to stretch your legs. So, that's it for today. One more beautiful lake to add to our list of beauties here in the Black Hills.
