McElholum road trip - up the Centre 2012 travel blog

Nourlangie rock

Packed and moving by 8am. Drove 50km south to Nourlangie area for more excellent ranger talks at art sites in this area. More Aboriginal stories explaining their laws and 'skin' groups. Archaelogical digs have proven that the area has been inhabited for over 20,000 years in the Anbangbang rock shelter. We handled the quartz spear tip and stone axe head. Again in 'stone country' area.

Staying a couple of nights at "Kakadu' caravan park in Jabiru. Some welcome relief with grass, full shade and tropical, lagoon pool. Seems out of place that a national park has a fully serviced town and caravan parks within!! Spent afternoon at pool. $38p/n.
