The really bright spot is Times Square.

We drove from Newburg to New York (actually we are camped in Jersey City, Jersey but it is so close to NY that we can see the Statue of Liberty from our campground). We followed the wagon master her. He led us a way with the least traffic and no tunnels. We arrived at noon, and we started the tour at 6 PM. We are camped right at a marina so I included a picture of one of the yachts and some boats. Right from the campground we can catch a ferry or a water taxi to take us to Manhattan. Or we can walk to the train (too far for Susan to walk).

We hoped on the bus and drove into the City. It turned out that tonight they were having the MTV awards so traffic was worse than usual. Our tour guide had to talk the police into letting us down one street that they had closed. We walked right buy where the celebrities walk the carpet and get interviewed and then go in.

Our first stop was a Hamilton Park. This is where Hamilton and Burr had their famous duel where Hamilton shot in the air and then Burr shot him in the liver. Hamilton died in pain 30 hours later. Here we got to take some great pictures of the NY skyline. We were on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River.

Then we drove over to the New York Metropolitan Opera House. We took photos and they have this great lighted fountain. Mostly lovers sitting on the edge of the fountain. It was getting dark so the pictures don't do it justice. It was a warm night so it was really pleasant. It is amazing how the bus driver just sort of makes his own parking spot. Parking in NY is a nightmare. And the tunnels are not tall, our trailer could not make it, besides, if you have propane bottles you are not allowed.

From there we went to Times Square. The number of people for a Sunday night was amazing. People everywhere. At Times Square is Broadway where all the musicals and plays are. Susan and I ate a hot dog from one of the vendors. Again, the pictures don't do it justice as the neon lights play havoc with the photos.

Then we drove to Rockefeller Center and we went up 69 stories to the observation deck for pictures of the city.

Leaving the City was a traffic nightmare. We got back home at about 11 PM. End of day 1. We will be very busy
