We woke up to blue skies again, leisurely had breakfast, and drove back to the village to see Devil's Punchbowl Falls. The falls were beautiful. It was a wide, multi-tiered cascading falls, with lots of pools. You would walk right up to it, so we did!!!
We then headed back up to the top of the pass for photos. As we headed up the drive to the parking lot, two pesky Keas were perched on the sign, just waiting to wreak havoc on the next tourists to arrive. Sure enough, shortly after we parked, they flew over to the van parked next to us. We snickered as they all cooed at the birds, not knowing what these birds can really be like!!
Before long, those two were on our roof again, chomping away at something. Like last time, they rode down the drive with us until we hit the main road. Crazy birds.
We made it back to the coast an rolled into Kaikaroa before dinner. It was a pretty sleepy town. Usually, the town is overrun with tourists wanting to catch a glimpse of the resident pod of sperm whales.
