John & Lori in Topeka
Jun 3, 2014
|With the RV inside the shop overnight, we slept very well indeed.
Of course there was no TV reception but that didn’t matter to us, as we spent a nice evening with friends, Ray & June.
Marilyn & I shared a pot of coffee before Kara and Zach arrived to open things up this morning. We took our time getting ready to leave, trying to time our departure so that we would miss the rush hour traffic in Kansas City.
That plan worked out pretty well, as we fuelled the truck, then pulled onto I-70 westbound right at 8:30 AM.
Marilyn did a nice job following me through Kansas City, and we arrived at Deer Creek Valley RV Park around 11:30.
We were all set up by 12:00 noon, then walked over to the BBQ place next door to the RV Park.
We carried the delicious BBQ meal back to the RV for a very tasty lunch, and had enough left over for lunch tomorrow.
The temperature today was in the 90’s with humidity to match, so we spent the afternoon inside with the A/C running.
We changed the bed linen, then took our showers, deciding to clean up for dinner out with our friends, John & Lori.
We left the RV park and drove to a place John & Lori had suggested, called the Burger Shack. I think that was the name of it anyway.
We saw that our friends had arrived ahead of us and we greeted each other with hugs. It sure was nice to see these good friends again. They delighted us when they mentioned that they were coming out to Mountaindale on June 30th, so we’ll be seeing them again before long.
Marilyn & I each ordered the Black & Bleu Burger which was really good! Great Bleu Cheese and an Apple Chutney.
Onion rings complimented the meal for me, as did the sweet potato fries with a roasted marshmallow sauce, for Marilyn.
John enjoyed a Smokey Burger which had lots of smoked bacon and a sauce. We were all quite stuffed by the time we left, although we lingered long after our meal, just enjoying the company.
When we left the restaurant we noticed that the humidity was gone and the weather was really nice.
It would have been a fine evening to sit outdoors for awhile but we were both tired.
We may sleep with the windows open tonight.
