Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! We slept like babies last night after all the exploring we did on the way to Tofino. We woke ready to roll again and stayed busy all day. We started with breakfast at Ruff Beans, a cool restaurant and coffee shop with outdoor dining. This is a must do while visiting Tofino.
Tofino is one of the coolest towns we have visited. It is known for being a bit of a hippy town, lots of people walking at a slower pace, enjoying the beauty of the area. Tofino is a small district on Vancouver Island, off Canada's west coast. It sprawls on a peninsula within Clayoquot Sound, characterized by wild natural scenery including lakes, inlets and ancient rain forest. Sandy beaches with year-round surfing facilities include Cox Bay, Chesterman Beach and popular Long Beach, part of the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The relaxed town of Tofino sits on the peninsula's tip.
We made sure we wore some green in our outfits today, we always do this on Saint Patrick’s day. You would get pinched if you didn’t where I grew up. :-) We didn’t see anyone else dressed in green, we didn’t find our usual corned beef and cabbage dinners out either. We ended up at Cox Beach with Jerry having a chicken sandwich and I had halibut. We were glad we cooked our corned beef and cabbage before we left, we had a hunch we might not find it in Canada.
We had lunch at the Long Beach Lodge and watched hundreds of surfers and people enjoying Cox Beach. This is one of the most beautiful beaches we have seen. To top it off, we spotted a lighthouse in the area too. I didn’t even plan to search for lighthouses this trip, only having a few days, they seem to be finding me. We checked out a bunch of beaches in the area, Cox was our favorite. I am adding a lot of pictures and hope you enjoy. Check back later for more from Vancouver Island.
