The last time we were here 18 months ago, a storm came in and we were unable to go diving/snorkelling as the sea had churned up the waters around the impressive corel reefs. As Nha Trang is a transit point on the way to Hoi An, we stayed an extra day in order to explore the corel around the surrounding islands.

Regretably, we booked ourselves onto a bulk standard TM Brothers tour and spent the day on a small boat with over 50 other tourists being herded from site to site although, for only $6 each, we couldn't really complain as this included food, drink and fruit all day. Nevertheless, sitting in the Rainbow Divers Café, it's clear there are more professional and interesting options and that the corel is excellent. Sadly, we missed it, instead compelled to join in with the "boy band", a happy collection of older men who doubled up as the boat crew to perform some strange renditions of popular English songs , and a floating bar where were able to see at first hand, young people enjoying themselves raucously! All was not bad as we topped up on the sunshine and had some good swims in clear blue warm sea.

This has confirmed our view that 'off the beaten track' is our preference and we're looking forward to some more of that when we return to Laos in due course, working our way back to Bangkok.
