|During the night our ship sailed only 115 miles, from Roatan to Belize City.
Most of our group had chosen to go snorkeling, while Marilyn & I opted for a tour of the Mayan Ruins and a River Cruise with a typical Belize meal for lunch.
Our guide was descended from the Mayans and was very knowledgeable and we sure enjoyed her narrative.
The ruins were reached after a lengthy bus ride and it began to rain as we approached the ruins. We purchased a thin, flimsy, plastic poncho, for $3.00 each, and that helped a little bit in keeping us dry.
Another lengthy bus ride took us to an outdoor place with tables and chairs set up, covered by a roof, which was a good thing on a rainy day.
We ate a meal of BBQ chicken, a salad, and a rice & bean dish cooked in coconut milk. It was all tasty and hit the spot for us.
After the meal we boarded a fast boat for a 22 mile ride down a river, mostly in the rain.
We saw crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas (Some up to four or five feet in length), many birds, and manatees.
The last 10 minutes of the trip were in pouring rain. It was quite an adventure, although we were soaking wet by the time we returned to the ship.
We sure enjoyed this day and looked forward to tomorrow.
