On a Roll with Daisy 2013 travel blog

Today at our DAR meeting we had a very interesting and entertaining speaker, Judith Marketz. She is the operations manager at the Warrior and Family Services Center in San Antonio. She presented slides of the facilities and described the programs for wounded service personnel of all branches of the military. The recurring theme of her talk was “ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”

The Center is located on Fort Sam Houston at 3138 Rawley E. Chambers, San Antonio, TX 78219. Their purpose to provide coordinated services to patients, next-of-kin and extended family members with a primary focus on Wounded Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom Warriors. It provides a friendly, comfortable environment where they can take a break, watch movies, play video games, use the Internet, read, etc. They receive emotional support and extend their rehabilitation away from the hospital. It is funded through donations and schedules over 100 free events and trips each month. (http://www.bamc.amedd.army.mil/military/wfsc/)
