Army of Terracotta Warriors
The Terracotta Army is one of the most famous archaeological finds in the world. A life size army of thousands of soldiers stand watch to guard over the soul of the first unifier of China, Qin Shi Huang. The discovery of the site was purely a random event. A peasant farmer discovered the underground vault while digging a well in 1974. There are thousands of soldiers each with a different face modeled after one of the peasants who help to make the soldiers. After the completion of the army all the peasant workers were killed. In retaliation the families of the peasant workers broke into the tomb and smashed all of the soldiers. There are over 7,000 of which just over 2,000 have been put back to together. The process of restoration continues and will into the future. It was an amazing sight except for the 20,000 other Chinese getting in the way of my photos.
