SWITCH TO DELAWARE, MARYLAND, VIRGINIA MAP
Landing on Tangier Island, an isolated community of approx 650 residents out in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay was like stepping back in time 100 years. We were in Virginia now but it seemed more like another country. Crab traps in the thousands lined the shore and as I snuggled into our cozy bed in the wee, dark hours of the morning I was glad I wasn't a Chesapeake Bay fisherman as I heard their boats start up and head out.
The roads were narrow and golf carts outnumbered cars. Many cats wandered the streets and almost every home had their property covered in family graves. We poked our heads into a few stores and the prices in this remote part of the state made me wonder how people afforded to buy anything from them.
The Captain made crab cakes for dinner, using a recipe from our new Crab Recipe book that we picked up at the Annapolis boat show.
