We left home this morning and headed west a little later than I would have liked (1200). I had a few errands to run before we could leave home. The most important was to pick up 4 gold coins from the Elsmere Police that were stolen from Winnie a couple of weeks ago. No trace of the silver dollars or WWII-era Mauser pistol that were also stolen. I'm glad to have the gold back, but disappointed we didn't get the pistol back as it was Sue's Dad's.
We need to be in the St. Louis area by 9/21 so we can park Winnie and then drive to St. Paul, MN to board the stern wheeler "America" for a cruise down the Mississippi River.
The trip has not been without trials. The dash air conditioner quit as soon as we left Delaware making for a warm trip today. When we got to Hickory Hollow for our overnight stop, I hooked up the water and it appears we don't have hot water. I think one of the check valves on the water heater is plugged or broken. It looks like we'll need to visit a Camping World for repairs when we get back from the cruise.
Winnie is still missing the entry door window that was broken during the burglary. It was ordered on 8/29 from Winnebago and had a 4-6 week delivery time. Apparently they are made in Mexico and have to be shipped to California, then Iowa and finally to Delaware. We couldn't wait, so I'm making arrangement to have it installed in Iowa since we will be in the state in October. Unfortunately, the dealers service department is booked until late October. I may wind up installing it myself. Stay tuned.
