After my big day at Epcot, I spent the rest of the week searching for letterboxes, bike riding, and seeing small towns, parks, and lakes. I met a geocacher looking for the same box that I had just found - it was a combination letterbox and geocache. She grew up in this area but lived in California for 35 years. She missed this area so moved back when she retired. She said it pretty good when she said this was like Old Florida and the South. There are lots of little lakes, gentle rolling hills, big live oaks, palms, and pines with quaint little towns interspersed. I like it here - outside of Orlando.
Yesterday, I met a friend and fellow fulltiming woman from Albany - Linda - and we toured a winery in the area then had dinner together at this campground. She had sent me passes for discounts to campgrounds in the organization she joined and this is one of them. I got to hear of some of her adventures and experiences. She went to the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque and wants to go again because it was that good.
Today, I had lunch/dinner in the middle of the afternoon at Applebee's and they gave me the entree for free since I am a Vet! I had steak, potatoes, and even tried to eat that awful vegetable - broccoli! I bought my dessert because they still serve cake with the hot pudding inside with a scoop of ice cream on the side - belated birthday dinner to myself! Ha!
Hurricane Ida was in the news here but we didn't feel much of the effects. I left the Gulf shores and Keaton Beach at the right time! Here, it was breezy and it rained a bit, but that's all. Now a cool front is coming through and it will be blanket cold at night with a high in the low 70s tomorrow at least. Almost perfect!
While I didn't see too many different sights to take pictures of, hopefully these pics will give you a flavor of what the area is like. While I like it here, I'm not ready to find an affordable campground to spend my winters - I think it still gets quite cool here in January and February!
