Yet another Historical Site being restored!

At least you can see the outside (kinda)

Prior to reaching the islands I visited some intersting sites on the mainland. There are some photos from the Uropian Community of Rugby, Tennessee, as well as a wonderfully used old power plant in Baltimore.

There's a tremendous variety of buildings in the Caribbean - from the World Heritage buildings of Cartagena to colorful shacks in the rainforest.

The English, French, Danes, Dutch, Spanish, and Swedes contributed styles, materials, and colors.

Black slaves supplied their labor.

Forts rose to protect from pirates; warehouses to store gold, molasses, cloth, and rum; churches and synagogues to house worshippers of a variety of faiths; most were built in place though some churches and even libraries were shipped in pieces from New England or France and put back together.

They range from huts to plantations. Some are still intact, some mostly memory.

But my favorite aspect are the wonderful warm colors that many of them share.
