Previously mentioned have been the nice, encouraging fulltiming folks we meet along the journey. Again, there is hope in humanity as we have spent a day with 10 year veterans of fulltiming! How did we come to spend the day with them, you ask. Camping World is becoming a routine stop for repairs. These folks tell us it is simply part of the adventure. Corkys wallet seizes at the thought of another $1,000 repair. Our front leg(landing gear) are worn out. The only solution is replacement. These are a necessity-not a luxury.
On the way out of Chicago, it was necessary to make a stop at the Cummins generator factory repair(if you recall, this generator is a newborn!-less than 19 hrs on it. Thank goodness it was a factory issue! Incidentally, we were treated very nicely by the service writer and technician. We can not say enough good things about the Chicago area.
While here, we are making the most of sightseeing. For instance, did you know Lewis and Clark were commissioned by Pres efferson to commence their journey from Council Bluffs, Ia The Missouri and Oto Indians met with them on a bluff high above the Missouri River at a council meeting exchanging tokens of peace and goodwill. For any of you thinking of traveling, always stop at the visitors center. As a matter of fact, the four historic western trails began from this point. The displays, video, and history help one to appreciate the attractions. The historic trails are vividly reenacted at the visitor center. Within eyeball distance and on the other side of the river is Omaha, Nebraska. We look forward to taking a look at that city. We can see the full size train replicas where rail lines east and west meet. These were laid in the mid 1800s.
Its 6:45 PM. The Montana is ready to hit the road. No supper tonight as we stopped at Harrahs Casino for the buffet - food galore for a low price. We chose not to play the slot machines; 99% seniors drinking and smoking!
